چکیده

The acoustic boundary conditions at the site of laser irradiation affects the onset of cavitation when stress-confined laser pulses are used. This study reports the thresholds for cavitation when the laser pulse length exceeds the stress confinement time by a factor of eight. The cavitation threshold was defined as the loss of an acoustic signal from the collapse of the cavitation bubble in room temperature dye solutions. The threshold temperature increase for cavitation at a free surface was 13±3◦C, at the tip of a 200μm fiber in an aqueous solution was 17±2◦C, and at the interface of two acoustically matched boundary materials was 80±20◦C.

Degradation of DNA in high-intensity focused ultrasonic fields at 1 MHz.

Gassy and degassed aqueous solutions of DNA were treated ultrasonically while monitoring the field for discrate cavitation events. At irradiation intensities greater than about 500 W/cm 2, transient cavitation is shown to be responsible forthe observed reduction i molecular weight. At intensifies of200 to 288 W/cm 2, degradation of DNA was observed which did not depend upon transient cavitation.

Evaluating the Effects of Dual Frequency Sonication Parameters on Acoustic Cavitation by Chemical Dosimeter Using Iodide

Background and Aims: Production of acoustic cavitation by sonication has been recently recommended as a targeted treatment. The experimental results from studies indicate that the activity of cavitation generated by bi- or multi-frequency ultrasound irradiation is higher than that caused by single frequency irradiation. In this study, effects dual (1 MHz and 40 kHz) and single frequency soni...

Pressure impulses during microsecond laser ablation.

The collapse of laser-induced cavitation bubbles creates acoustic transients within the surrounding medium and also pressure impulses to the ablation target and light-delivery fiber during microsecond laser ablation. The impulses are investigated here with time-resolved flash photography, and they are found to occur whether or not the light-delivery fiber is in contact with the target. We demon...

Effect of Ultrasonication on Membrane Structure and Flux Recovery for Whey Ultrafiltration

In this study, the effect of ultrasound irradiation on the flux recovery and fouling mitigation for the membranes made of the polysulfone by the phase inversion method were investigated. Two ultrasound irradiation regimes, including inside and outside the module, were chosen for this study. The experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of ultrasound irradiation on the membrane struct...

Influence of acoustic cavitation on the controlled ultrasonic dispersion of carbon nanotubes.

Ultrasonication is the most widely used technique for the dispersion of a range of nanomaterials, but the intrinsic mechanism which leads to stable solutions is poorly understood with procedures quoted in the literature typically specifying only extrinsic parameters such as nominal electrical input power and exposure time. Here we present new insights into the dispersion mechanism of a represen...
